Meishan Pigs
Meishan pigs are one of the oldest domesticated breeds in the world. These pigs originated in China and were brought to the U.S. in the 80’s as part of a study between the USDA, Iowa State and the University of Illinois. Meishan pigs are known for their high productivity (large litters) and docile demeanor.
Even though Weathered Oaks Farm has raised other types of pigs in the past, we found raising the Meishan pigs to be more of a benefit because they are super friendly and they do not root! Not to mention, their meat is phenomenal!
Meet Our Meishan Pigs,
Shrek & Fiona
Shrek and Fiona were named by an Instagram following. However, we refer to them as Mommy and Daddy when we are spending time with them. They are both very docile and kind of act like big dogs. Both of them love to be petted and scratched. At first glance, they may seem intimidating but they are gentle giants. Fiona had her first litter on the farm May 2018. Her piglets were just as friendly and so adorable. Fiona and Shrek are both excellent parents.
We Offer
Weathered Oaks Farm sells piglets for breeders, pets and meat. We also sell butcher weight pigs occasionally. We encourage you to explore our website for more details of what our farm has to offer.
